Shinny new Bonnet Catch

Updated: Oct 22, 2019

One of our engineers had a little clip fail in his car engine bay. In days gone by he would have had to temporarily secure the parts until he could find a replacement. Not living in a major city has the disadvantage that this search can be difficult and take a lot of time, often still being empty handed at the end. But today he was able to very quickly model the broken part in 3D and print a test piece in PLA. The only material on hand at the time. While this lasted amazing long in service, it eventually failed. Another print kept the car rolling with minimal downtime. But to permanently resolve the issue (or at least for a much longer time) he asked me to print it in PETG.

The model file was shared via Fusion 360. I printed it without any issues due to the correct design. It is now fitted in his car with a satisfying click, ready to serve for many kilometers to come. Check out the video below to experience he satisfying positive clip into place yourself.
